Chinese red envelopes, also called hong bao, red packets, lai see, or lucky money envelopes, are presented as monetary gifts to family on New Year as a wish for good luck in the coming year. All Chinese red envelopes will have auspicious images and Chinese characters on the front to express good wishes.
On the Spring Festival couplets, good wishes or statements are expressed. New Year good wishes are pasted in pairs on both sides of the door frame to express people’s delight in the festival and wishes for a better year. Another door decoration is calligraphy of Fu characters, meaning happiness and fortune. Chinese always paste Fu characters upside down on the door or window because the inversion in Chinese called “dao” has the same pronunciation as the “coming” in Chinese. An inverted Fu character means the good fortune is coming. Great to decorate your home, office, party, shop, classroom, restaurant, store, mall, and so on.
